I picked up recently the novel “The Thirteenth Tale” by Diane Setterfield.  The author has one of the characters say:

“Everybody has a story.  It’s like families.  You might not know who they are, might have lost them, but they exist all the same.  You might drift apart or you might turn your back on them, but you can’t say you haven’t got them.  Same goes for stories….everybody has a story.”

It strikes me that what I like to do is put together the traces, the possibilities of people’s stories, the bits left out, or forgotten, the bits that might have been or should have been.
