In 27 cities across Canada on either September 19 or 20,  volunteers in bright orange tee-shirts will be hawking newspapers for a donation to Raise-a-Reader.  As their name suggests, R-a-R is about literacy, helping our kids to read.

The Raise-Reader website says “more than 40% of all Canadians have literacy skills below the level needed to succeed in today’s society and economy.”  Without good readers we cannot have a strong economy or a strong democracy.  I want our kids not only to learn to read, but also to read to learn, to question, to enquire and to understand.

On September 19 or 20, give generously to R-a-R.  Or volunteer.  Or both.
